We're Touched

Thursday, January 17, 2013 5:22:29 PM America/Los_Angeles

10 facts about orgasms You know that old saying, about how it takes a village to create a vibrator? We’ll, this certainly held true for our latest design - HELLO TOUCH. More than two years of work, iteration after iteration, plus hours of testing, and then more testing (perhaps more testing than was necessary) went into the release of this final product. And we couldn’t be happier with the result. Though HELLO TOUCH only launched Tuesday, the word has spread far and wide. Numerous news outlets, including CosmoSlate, Jezebel and International Business Times immediately covered the product. If you ask Jesus at Gizmodo, “HELLO TOUCH may be the best sex toy ever invented.” Curious what all the fuss is about? Check it out for yourself.

Cosmopolitan names FORM 6 the #1 Best New Sex Toy of 2013

Wednesday, January 9, 2013 4:04:47 PM America/Los_Angeles

We like to sing the praises of our new FORM 6 G3… about how it's powerful and waterproof, how it lasts for over six hours with our cordless recharging technology and how it's completely body-safe and phthalate-free. But the compliments mean so much more when they come from external experts. From Cosmo – #1 Best New Sex Toy of 2013… Form 6 G3 “The latest version is tricked out for travel with a Universal Adapter, a travel lock so it won't go off in your bag (thank you!), a portable charging base, and a cute little case so the TSA can leave something to the imagination.Read the article, or go buy FORM 6 G3 and make your own judgment call. The people behind Fleshbot, the NSFW porn review site, have also spent the past year reviewing and rating sex toys from all types of companies. Turns out they’re on the same page as Cosmo.
From Fleshbot – “ All of JimmyJane’s creativity can be found in the sleek curves of this dual-end toy as well as the badass engine inside it. You can’t go wrong with this thing.”
We’ll put the link here, but be forewarned, this is not a family-appropriate site.

Fifty Shades of Grey is leading to a very kinky Christmas

Thursday, December 13, 2012 3:09:41 PM America/Los_Angeles

It’s a Christmas miracle. Fifty Shades of Grey is still—STILL!—on the New York Times Best Sellers list. That makes 40 consecutive weeks in the top ten and that means that more than one copy of this steamy paperback will be wrapped and waiting under the tree or beside the menorah (tonight is night number 6 – there’s still time!) In addition to a copy of 50 Shades of Grey (or one of its sequels), wives and girlfriends everywhere can also look forward to opening fifty shades of sex toys – from vibrators, to Ben Wa balls, to a leather riding crop. Just as sales of the Rabbit vibrator sky-rocketed after Charlotte became enamored with her own on “Sex and the City,” the hot and mysterious Christian Grey has caused a surge in sex toy sales. According to Business Week, “The $2 billion industry, which has grown between 5 percent and 10 percent annually in the past decade… could exceed 15 percent next year due to the ripple effect of Fifty Shades of Grey.” Look at this spike in Google Trends just for Ben Wa Balls. Here at Jimmyjane, we’ve seen a rise in sales of what were previously considered edgier items, such as our bondage tape and leather riding crop. In the same way that Fifty Shades of Grey tells a story, customers are looking for a complete narrative experience, rather than basic product functionality. Pleasure Sets that set the stage for exploration have been very successful since 50 Shades of Grey first took off, with items like “THE GREY AREA” and our (blindfolded) massage-oriented “THE HEAD TO TOE” giving customers an opportunity to push their limits a little – or quite a bit, if that’s what intrigues them.

Harlequin and Cosmo are teaming up

Wednesday, December 5, 2012 4:39:09 PM America/Los_Angeles

Calling all brilliant authors, will someone talented please write a steamy erotic novel? Please? If not, this perfectly lovely genre will continue to be left to the Harlequins and Cosmopolitans of the world. Yep, these two self-professed sexpert mediums are going to start bringing cookie-cutter erotic fiction to E-readers everywhere. According to The New York Times, Harlequin will publish two electronic books each month starting next May. These short novelettes will be written by Harlequin writers, but be imprinted with the Cosmo name. Clearly, Cosmo is going after the large and growing Fifty Shades of Grey audience. It's fitting, really, since Cosmo has been producing sexual fiction for years.

College Kids are Kinky

Thursday, November 29, 2012 6:09:18 PM America/Los_Angeles

We all know that college students hit the books hard. But as it turns out, they’re also hitting each other, with riding crops, belts, paddles, canes, and floggers. “Floggers are my favorite,” Says a Harvard Junior, who goes by “Maria” in this article by the New York Observer. BDSM (short for bondage, discipline, sadism and masochism) has been around since the beginning of sex. But the accelerated mainstream acceptance of these practices may have something to do with the rise in popularity of erotic novels such as Fifty Shades of Grey. This acceleration is most apparent in Ivy league colleges such as Columbia, Tufts, MIT, Yale and Harvard. All of these schools offer unofficial “Munch groups.” A munch group  is an informal gathering to eat and socialize and discuss their interest in kinky sex. The Harvard College Munch group has been meeting casually since October of 2011, growing from 7 members to 20. Tomorrow, it will be ratified as an official club by Harvard's student-life committee. This means more privileges for the members, more recognition from the school, and more opportunity for students to discuss the issues that are important to them. Read more about it in the Harvard Crimson.

Erotic Films to Watch with your Family This Holiday

Tuesday, November 20, 2012 11:00:04 AM America/Los_Angeles

Let’s face it, you can only watch “It’s a Wonderful Life” so many times before you want George Bailey to just jump off the bridge already. Mix it up this holiday with pornography for the whole family. Stuck at home until Sunday with a dozen relatives? These erotic films will both pass the time and spark colorful conversation at the Thanksgiving table. Eruption Picture a feature-length X-rated Magnum PI episode shot with Instagram filters, and you're well on your way to imagining this classic American porn. Filmed way back in 1977 when pornographers used film (16mm in this case), writers worked up hokey-laborate plots to explain inexplicable couplings (okay, they still do that), men had mustaches, and everybody had pubic hair, this is one amazing time capsule. The star of the film is not John Holmes, as the credits may lead you to believe, but his legendary penis. In other words, there’s serious potential to frighten your younger cousins from ever wanted to have sex (or go to Hawaii). Emmanuelle Collection Does your family like foreign films? Perhaps you can all pick up a little Francais with these cult-classics. This series of French softcore films was a global phenomenon when it was launched in 1974, and led to a surge in popularity of the genre. The series stars Sylvia Kristel as Emmanuelle, the young wife of a French diplomat, and begins as she travels to Thailand to be with him. When she immerses herself in the local culture and expatriate community, she explores her sexuality with ever-intensifying adventures in promiscuity. It beats playing pinochle with Uncle Fred. Magic Mike What better way to bond with Mom than over Channing Tatum’s bare ass? This movie isn’t exactly pornography – there’s no real sex in it. However, it features adult themes including male strippers, excessive drug use, and Matthew McConaughey. Watch with caution if grandma has a heart condition. No matter what you decide to watch, we hope you enjoy your holiday. Happy Thanksgiving, from Jimmyjane.

What would your mother think?

Monday, November 12, 2012 11:08:10 AM America/Los_Angeles

As a Jimmyjane blog reader, you’ve probably seen the articles about our founder, Ethan Imboden, and how he got into the vibrator biz in the first place. But, have you ever thought about how his mother might feel? Well, now you can read all about it, in the New York Times post by Joy Overstreet Imboden (AKA, “Mom” to Ethan). In this honest account, Overstreet discusses how she went from a prudish Boston upbringing to investing in (and helping with) her son’s vibrator business. Sweet, right? Reactions to the article range from “awe” to “ew,” as you can read in Jezebel’s response to the article. Jezebel seems into it. The folks who commented below, not so much. What do you think of giving your mom a personally engraved vibrator for her birthday? Let us know.

Care for a buzz with that buzz?

Friday, October 5, 2012 4:14:00 PM America/Los_Angeles

The conversation around female masturbation is changing... venues. According to the Tokyo Reporter, it's moved out of women's apartments (over a glass of wine) and into bars (over a glass of wine). After all, what goes better with vibrator talk than booze? Japan has opened the first masturbation-themed bar. Love Joule, located in Tokyo's bustling Shibuya district, features an assortment of colorful vibrators behind the bar in the place where you'd normally see an assortment of colorful liquor bottles. (Fact for the day: an indulgence in masturbation instead of alcohol is 100% less likely to result in a hangover the next morning.) Proprietor Megumi Nakagawa created the bar as a safe space for women to openly discuss their sexual preferences and turn-ons. Men are allowed in, but not without a female chaperone. This bar is an example of Japan's new eagerness to do away with the stigma surrounding female masturbation. (This, from the country that brings us the portable flushing noise gadget so no one can hear you pee.) This masturbation bar may be the first bar with vibrators, but it's not the first to bring an open discussion of sexual pleasure into social establishments. San Francisco is home to a cafe centered around the BDSM community. New York's East Village opened (and closed) a V-shaped bar called Lava Gina (perhaps they should have offered vibrators to keep their doors open?). So what do you think - is Japan ahead of this trend? Or behind it?
