Taking Pleasure in the Music Festival Season

The hot, sunny days and long, wild nights of summer radiate sexual energy. Minimal clothing (and inhibitions) make the season conducive to adventurous romps and fleeting flings, especially for attendees of one of summer’s greatest party circuits – music festivals. From May to September, millions pack up their bags and set out on a pilgrimage around the world to consume hours of music, dance in the grass and sleep under the stars. The sense of community is reason enough to attend these massive gatherings. Everyone is bound to make a few new friends, share lawn chairs and swap snacks, drinks and doobs. With all those people and all that serotonin, spontaneous sex is virtually inevitable. Getting some private time amid the public masses may seem tricky, but successful festival season interludes are possible, and more rewarding, with a little preparation. Pack along some self-care essentials, including safe-sex options, travel-ready sex accessories, and your favorite eau de je-ne-sais-quoi. The options fly open from there and it’s up to you, and maybe your tent mates, to decide who gets the first romp. With a little flexibility and varying degrees of exhibitionism, you and your partner(s) can find pleasure while enjoying the ongoing musical accompaniment. From indie-rock to electronic and country, genre options are just as varied as the concert locations, which can range from mountain-side to wide-open fields. It’s impossible to hit them all in a single run, so be picky about which festivals get your lovin’. Before you pay your way into any event, make sure it’s your style and vice versa. Can you handle an entire weekend? Do you fantasize about sleeping-bag sex, or are you a camping virgin? Maybe you envision a hotel escape? Check out this diverse list of stellar festivals and their varied options. Start planning early and the reward will be twice as nice. Glastonbury Festival – June 22-26, Worthy Farm, Pilton, UK From big names like U2 and Beyonce, to indie-stars Crystal Castles and the Go! Team, Glasbonbury’s 12 stages are guaranteed to pleasure everyone’s preferences. The best part: legendary teepees, available for rent and a true out-of-bed experience. Wanderlust – June 23-26, Stratton Mountain Ski Resort, Bondville, VT This festival is uniquely tailored to body, mind and spirit, offering yoga, rock ‘n’ roll and breathtaking views from the top of a mountain. Ride the gondola between sets and give your partner a mile-high high they’ll never live down. Electric Forest Festival – June 30-July 3, Rothbury MI Dance hard to Bassnectar’s deep beats and then slip away to make love under the magicalcanopy of Sherwood Forest. Camp Bisco – July 7-9, Mariaville, NY Lots of synth and digital jams will send electronic currents from the stage to the campground. Keep your own vocals in the lower frequencies and let the bass obscure your secret session. EXIT Festival – July 7-10, Novi Sad, Serbia The Exit Village campsite can stretch out your stay to a nine-day party, complete with educational workshops; a quiet break from the schedule of over 600 performers, including M.I.A and Arcade Fire. EMRG +N+SEE – July 15-18, Portland, OR The crazy line-up of DJs will get your body all warmed up before you get all wet – with the ‘Pond’ party and a private yacht cruise. Telluride Bluegrass Festival – July 16-19, Telluride, CO Gorgeous, lush mountains are the perfect compliment to a more low-key bluegrass festival. These country tunes are great for romantic picnics and modest make-outs. Get cozy in the moonlight and listen to the coyotes howl. Fuji Rock Festival – Jul 29-31 Naeba Ski Resort, Yuzawa-machi, Niigata Rock hard with Coldplay and even harder with The Kills, then relax to Beach House and Wilco. Keep clean in the Resort’s collection of rooms or get down & dirty at the campsite. Outside Lands – August 12-14, San Francisco, CA No tents allowed at this mid-city festival, but getting busy outdoors in the gigantic urban park is still a valid option. Skip the skivvies and find a big Redwood to cover your quickie. Lollapalooza – August 5-7, Grant Park, Chicago, IL Check into a Chicago hostel or splurge on a fancy downtown hotel. A little sexual healing on crisp white sheets will help you dance through the long list of acts, including Eminem, Girl Talk, Flogging Molly and Beirut.
