Red states love their vibrators

by Jimmyjane |

If you believe everything you read online (which we absolutely advocate – the Internet never lies), then you’ll be tickled pink (or red?) to see the correlation between buying sex toys and voting republican.

According to a recent infographic, eight out of the ten states with the most sex toy purchases per person happen to be the same states that are leaning toward the Romney/Ryan ticket in November. While we’re incredulous about the accuracy of these numbers (the data supposedly comes from “Internal Research”), we are sure that it’s entertaining to compare this map to any map that shows predictions for the 2012 presidential race.

Another theory – these are also some of the least populated states, so, maybe a vibrator helps pass the time during those lonely days on the farm.

Good girls go to heaven, bad girls go everywhere.

by Jimmyjane |

Helen Gurley Brown first became famous for authoring the book, “Sex and the Single Girl.” This precocious book—encouraging women to have all the sex they desired—was published long before the writers of “Sex and the City” had even hit puberty.

It was through this, and through her 32 years as the editor of Cosmopolitan Magazine, that Ms. Brown stretched and broke the boundaries of women’s roles and stereotypes from the 1960′s on.

She died on Monday in Manhattan, at age 90.

Ms. Brown was a self-proclaimed feminist. It was she who introduced open discussions of sex into women’s magazines. Whether she furthered or hindered the women’s liberation movement is still much debated. » Read more. »

Olympic-sized Sex Fest

by Jimmyjane |

Right now in London, thousands of athletes are competing in the ultimate test of strength, stamina, grace, or speed. According to an article in ESPN, this display continues off the field, gymnasium and pool and into bedrooms, various bars, and, hell, even on the lawn between dormitories.

It was reported that at Sydney’s 2000 games, the 70,000 condoms distributed were insufficient. This prompted a new standing order of 100,000 condoms per Olympic games.

100,000 condoms. There are 10,960 athletes in London’s 2012 Olympics. That’s some shocking arithmetic, but at least they’re being safe. Though, imagine the strength and beauty of a baby that’s half U.S. swimmer and half Russian water polo player. Pause for a moment to visualize. Okay, now we can move on. » Read more. »

Naked Light

by Jimmyjane |

The other day, while working on an upcoming project involving patterns and textures, we stumbled across the work of Fernand Fonssagrives. Generally our inspiration comes from further afield (fashion, nature, Higgs bosons), but this case, the subject matter was quite closely related to our work.

Fonssagrives was a popular fashion photographer whose work was featured throughout the 40’s and 50’s in the likes of Town and Country, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. He found his inspiration close to home – his muse was none other than his wife, noted model Lisa Fonssagrives, who later remarried (and served as muse) to a different highly accomplished photographer, Irving Penn. Let’s just say, she has a type. » Read more. »

Fifty Shades of Discerning Customers

by Jimmyjane |

Despite the best efforts of sex educators like Betty Dodson, stores like Babeland and Good Vibrations, and brands like, well, us, the taboo around female sexual pleasure still lurks in American culture. Sure, there was the feminist revolution, Our Bodies, Ourselves, these definitely helped to bring the female orgasm out of the closet. The nineties brought Sex and the City, which helped to open up the conversation even further. But still, how often do women talk casually with their friends about the last time they masturbated?

Our opinion – not as frequently as they should. Of course, everyone’s sexuality is their own private business. However, the more that women discuss what’s out there – techniques, vibrator options, new ideas – the more they can be inspired (rather than embarrassed) to explore their own range of sexual pleasure. » Read more. »

Jimmyjane is Fab’s best-selling brand

by Jimmyjane |

It’s Fab.com’s first birthday. What has this design-centric flash sale site done in the last year?

According to Business Insider, they’ve gained 5 Million Users, sold 1.8 million items, acquired their third startup (Llustre), and launched in the UK.

Those are quite a few accomplishments for a one-year-old.

So out of all 1.8 million items, what has been flying off Fab.com’s virtual shelves the fastest? “A vibrator,” announced cofounders Jason Goldberg and Bradford Shellhammer earlier this week at Le Web London. But not just any vibrator, a FORM from Jimmyjane.

Jimmyjane and Fab. It’s a match made in heaven. Watch the Le Web London interview (vibrators mentioned at 16:43).

Maggie Gyllenhaal discusses “Hysteria” on The Daily Show

by Jimmyjane |

It’s both endearing and disturbing. Jon Stewart, the eloquent host of The Daily Show, can’t bring himself to say “orgasm” during his recent interview with Maggie Gyllenhaal about her new movie, Hysteria.

This popular Comedy Central host—who interviews everyone from movie stars, to foreign diplomats, to presidents, without an errant word—can’t even form a full sentence when it comes to discussing female sexuality and vibrators. Like a nervous adolescent, Jon giggles his way through awkward references, from the Incredible Hulk to Tinker Bell.

However, we can’t help but appreciate his initial joke about the setting of the film – Victorian England, an era in which “Men made the decisions about women’s health without the knowledge or the emotional ability.

Flirting vs. Flaunting

by Jimmyjane |

Has the world not seen enough celebrity sex tapes and nude photos? Every other day, a new blowjob video or a pixilated snapshot of an errant breast is leaked to the Internet. According to Wired Science, this desire to share skin has less to do with fame, and more to do with neuroscience.

Being admired is a turn on for women. From Wired – “Studies have found that more than half of women’s sexual fantasies reflect the desire to be sexually irresistible.” What turns men on? Naked bodies. Sounds like a perfect combo.

No woman wants to be objectified or seen purely for her body. However, the college co-eds in Girls Gone Wild seem more eager to expose their breasts than their brains. (Or perhaps those racy shots of girls flaunting their intelligence and good judgment were left on the cutting room floor.) » Read more. »

Bruised by the ripple of unseen muscles

by Jimmyjane |

In honor of Hysteria, our favorite vibrator movie, being released this weekend, we bring you this aptly titled poem by T.S. Eliot, published in 1915.

What’s it about? Tell us what you think.

Hysteria

As she laughed I was aware of becoming involved

in her laughter and being part of it, until her

teeth were only accidental stars with a talent

for squad-drill. I was drawn in by short gasps,

inhaled at each momentary recovery, lost finally

in the dark caverns of her throat, bruised by » Read more. »
