See the unseen

by Jimmyjane |

Have you ever seen metal waving like a flag in the wind? Water droplets dancing and hovering?

We believe the pleasure’s in the details – even the ones you can’t see – so we were smitten when we came across this video by Fluke Corporation, specializing in electronic test tools and software.

No, they do not test our vibrators, though clearly we need to send them FORM 2 to shoot at 1,000 frames per second.

Naked Light

by Jimmyjane |

The other day, while working on an upcoming project involving patterns and textures, we stumbled across the work of Fernand Fonssagrives. Generally our inspiration comes from further afield (fashion, nature, Higgs bosons), but this case, the subject matter was quite closely related to our work.

Fonssagrives was a popular fashion photographer whose work was featured throughout the 40’s and 50’s in the likes of Town and Country, Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue. He found his inspiration close to home – his muse was none other than his wife, noted model Lisa Fonssagrives, who later remarried (and served as muse) to a different highly accomplished photographer, Irving Penn. Let’s just say, she has a type. » Read more. »

Jimmyjane is Fab’s best-selling brand

by Jimmyjane |

It’s Fab.com’s first birthday. What has this design-centric flash sale site done in the last year?

According to Business Insider, they’ve gained 5 Million Users, sold 1.8 million items, acquired their third startup (Llustre), and launched in the UK.

Those are quite a few accomplishments for a one-year-old.

So out of all 1.8 million items, what has been flying off Fab.com’s virtual shelves the fastest? “A vibrator,” announced cofounders Jason Goldberg and Bradford Shellhammer earlier this week at Le Web London. But not just any vibrator, a FORM from Jimmyjane.

Jimmyjane and Fab. It’s a match made in heaven. Watch the Le Web London interview (vibrators mentioned at 16:43).

Jimmyjane in the MAK

by Jimmyjane |

Jimmyjane has made an impression on Austria in more ways than one. Of course, the Austrians love FORM Vibrators for their power to please. But now, the Viennese are appreciating our powerful line of pleasure products in a new way – as art.

These practical objets d’arts are currently on exhibit in the MAK, Vienna’s museum of applied and contemporary art. Jimmyjane is featured alongside other design-centric brands from around the world, including Apple, Jawbone, and more.

From the MAK websiteFounded in 1863 as the Austrian Museum for Art and Industry, the MAK works toward the sustainable improvement of the interaction between art and commerce.”

We give you… Zimoun

by Jimmyjane |

Sound and power go hand in hand.

When we design our vibrators, our challenge is to get the most power with the least sound. Obviously, most people prefer their vibrators quiet, so as not to ruin the mood (or alert your neighbors of your activities), which is why we have a line of vibrators that are nearly silent.

However, Swiss artist Zimoun, uses motors, similar to the ones found inside Jimmyjane vibrators, to play with sound. It is not the motors themselves that make sound, but the objects to which they are attached.

Have a look at some of his Sculpting Sound work. Try closing your eyes while listening – what do you envision?

Bruised by the ripple of unseen muscles

by Jimmyjane |

In honor of Hysteria, our favorite vibrator movie, being released this weekend, we bring you this aptly titled poem by T.S. Eliot, published in 1915.

What’s it about? Tell us what you think.

Hysteria

As she laughed I was aware of becoming involved

in her laughter and being part of it, until her

teeth were only accidental stars with a talent

for squad-drill. I was drawn in by short gasps,

inhaled at each momentary recovery, lost finally

in the dark caverns of her throat, bruised by » Read more. »

How Far We’ve Come

by Jimmyjane |

With the upcoming release of Hysteria from Sony Pictures Classics, everyone is all in a tizzy – or should we say “In hysterics” – about where the vibrator came from, why it was invented, and how it came to be the lovely little masterpiece it is today.

As the official partner for the release of Hysteria, we thought we’d help out Maggie Gyllenhaal and Hugh Darcy with a little Vibrator History 101.

You can read more about it on our Hysteria page (where you can also enter to our Hysteria contest to win $500 gift card or one of our Hysteria Collection Pleasure Sets).

Dildos Vs. Vibrators

by Jimmyjane |

It has come to our attention that there are folks out there who unclear on the distinction between a dildo and a vibrator. Around here, we often get questions like “So, how’s work at the dildo factory?” – drawing to mind Lucy toiling away on the assembly line, only with rubbery phalluses wobbling by rather than chocolates. Rest assured, we never make our employees eat our excess inventory, and we don’t make dildos. We make vibrators.

The most important differentiating factor in what makes something a vibrator is, well, vibration. Vibrators are motorized massagers, while dildos are phallic-shaped objects that do not move on their own.

In other words, a vibrator is not a dildo, unless it’s out of batteries or broken and is simply used for insertion. In that case, you can call your vibrator your dildo – and a bit of a buzzkill. » Read more. »

Past-urbation

by Jimmyjane |

Have you talked to your grandmother about masturbation lately? Probably not, unless your grandmother is Joani Blank – founder of Good Vibrations and collector of vintage vibrators.

Blank’s extensive collection has just been integrated with her company’s to form San Francisco’s first Antique Vibrator Museum. This small gallery is located in the rear of the Good Vibrations Polk Street store.

The museum features an eclectic assortment dating back to 1890. Dr. Carol Queen, Staff Sexologist, can give you a historical tour that highlights the invention and functions of early vibrators. The sordid past of the world’s favorite sex accessory – and one of the first domestic electric appliances – gives a unique perspective of the history of female health and sexuality, from the Victorian era to the women’s liberation movement. » Read more. »
